Volunteer Appreciation Party
It would be impossible to celebrate all the great work being done this year at the Center without acknowledging our dedicated volunteers. On Thursday evening, we got everyone together to show them our thanks! When some local restaurants heard about the event and what the Center means to the community, they thoughtfully provided delicious entrees and desserts!
The evening was a chance for volunteers to get to know each other and share why they do what do. Fern Frank, a retired principal and volunteer in the Intensive English class, said of her experience, “I want to contribute whatever I can to help the people who take the time four days a week to learn English. I hope they go on to become contributing citizens in our society”. Halima Ahmed, a sophomore at Niles North shared, “I like helping others that are in need.” Linda Schubert, a Northbrook resident, said, “Every class is satisfying as both a learning experience for me and a learning experience for the students.”
The ELL Parent Center owes so much of its success to these volunteers who bring their skills and experiences to the classroom everyday. We’re so thankful to have the help of people who truly enjoy doing what they do. Big thanks to the restaurants that fed us so well and Uniting America Fellow Katherine Rivera for coordinating the event!
